2. Osama bin Laden was the leader of al-Qaeda which orchestrated the attacks on 9/11. This explains why there were so many searches for him in 2001.
3. Eminem performed with Elton John at the 43rd Grammy Awards in 2001. There was some controversy with his song lyrics which many considered homophobic, thus explaining why many were searching for his name on the world wide web.
4. Michael Jackson His 30th Anniversary Celebration in 2001 was a television special celebrating the 30-year solo career of The King of Pop.
5. Howard Stern was in the midst of his radio show when the planes hit the World Trade Center (he was just 4 miles away) on that fateful day in 2001.
